If all goes well, on Monday June 21st the small town of Mojave in California will be writing itself into the history books. A rocket backed by a high-tech entrepreneur is about to attempt the first commercial manned flight beyond the earth’s atmosphere, according to The Economist.
A high-altitude jet aircraft will fly to around 50,000 feet and from there a rocket, SpaceShipOne, and its pilot will launch into space. It will be the first non-government effort to put a human beyond the earth’s atmosphere.
If they succeed, thye will win the Ansari X Prize, which will give them $10m.
But there are others working to make space an economic possibility.
I´ll look forward to Monday.
