John Edwards have made his decision. John Edwards will be the man joining his ticket.
Edwards is "a champion for middle class Americans, and for those struggling to reach the middle class," Kerry told cheering supporters in Pittsburgh."Throughout this campaign, John talked about the great divide in America, the two Americas that exist between those who are doing very well and those who are struggling to make ends meet in our country," Kerry told the crowd.
An exciting choice - event though I would have gone for Wesley Clark. John Edwars will bring with him the boyish charisma that put Bill Clinton in the White House.
Steven Taylor at PoliBlog thinks that Edwards should have gone for Gephardt:
I still think that Gephardt would have been a better choice: a chance at tippping MIssouri to Kerry, a ton of governmental experience, and less discussion about him being chosen for "energy." Although, granted, there was still a lack of executive experience there.
James Joyner at Outside he Beltway had a look at the run up for the annoncement.
Kevin Alyward just seems happy that it wasn't Gephardt that was chosen:
I almost believed that Kerry was going to pick Dick Gephardt, which would have been a monumental mistake. As Gephardt's previous runs for the nomination have indicated he would have sucked the life right out of the Kerry campaign.
Pejman claims that Edwards is embarrassing.
Kevin Drum at the Washington Monthly is pleased with the selection:
The fact that Kerry was willing to choose someone who's a more charismatic speaker than himself — and will inevitably take some of his spotlight away — speaks well for him. Like they say, first rate people hire other first rate people. Second rate people hire third rate people. This was a first rate choice.
